Advice for the New ‘Youngest Women’ of Congress

I approached my first term in Congress with the mindset that you only have one opportunity to make a good first impression with your colleagues.

Particularly given the outsize press coverage that comes with the title of being the youngest women ever elected, it is critical that you both embrace the old congressional adage, “There are workhorses and show horses.”

Be the workhorses. Dig into your committees and deliver legislative wins for the nation and your districts. Encourage other women to beat your records. Mentor women from all political viewpoints and perspectives. Good luck; I look forward to working together.
