Helping to Create Smarter Work Zones to Reduce Fatalities
Lindsay Transportation Solutions is dedicated to manufacturing products that save lives and reduce risks for drivers and passengers on America’s roadways. And, we continue to look for new ways to improve road safety.
To that end, we are proud to support the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) smarter work zone campaign with a new initiative designed to reduce the number of work zone fatalities. There were 799 work zone-related fatalities in the U.S. in 2017, which is a 4.5 percent increase over the previous three-year average, according to the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.
To help combat this alarming trend, we recently partnered with Iteris, the global leader in applied informatics for transportation, to create smart work zones across U.S. roadways.
Combining the innovation of Lindsay’s Road Zipper System®, which is deployed to make more efficient use of new and existing roadways, with the Iteris ClearGuide® mobility intelligence platform, we can identify areas prone to recurring congestion and potential work zone safety risks. Once deployed, the Road Zipper System improves safety by separating the work area and traffic on our roads to provide positive barrier separation for workers and motorists in construction zones. It positively addresses infrastructure needs of increasing driver safety, protecting road construction workers, and reducing congestion.
